Hello everybody this is Profesor Jake and welcome back to a new activity.
I really wanted to do this activity long time ago so let's start with a VIDEO, we need to watch to understand this special move.
A few months ago we explained the STALEMATE and the CASTLING (if you want/need to know these moves just tell it to me in your comments)
Although we have been working on them we always can make new videos to improve and to re-teach them.
Peón al paso
Presta atención, es complicado.
Puntos clave:
(peones negros) y 6 (peones blancos)
Pay attention it’s tricky
Key facts:
What is a French expression to say “in passing”,
“al paso”.
- This
special move is only for pawns
- It
takes place on rows 3 (black pawns) and 6 (white ones)
- When
the starting pawn moves forward 2 squares and it is on the same row of a rival,
this rival can capture it as if it had moved one square.
- This
move have to be done in the very next move.
- It
is not mandatory to do so, but it cannot be done if this capture is not
immediate.
Why did this rule exist? This rule was
introduced at the same time as the pawns were allowed to move two squares on
their first move. When it happens, the rival does not have the opportunity to
capture it. Which didn’t seem fair.
If you are attentive, you will catch it the first time, you will see how easy it is, and how you will show off in front of your rivals, you will surely leave some with their mouths open.
You might get some weird looks if you do this move in a game with someone who does not know, but it is an important rule of chess.
Now a couple of challenges we can solve and send me your solutions.
