9th Activity THE SCALE
One more I am very proud of your works and
I enjoy showing your achievements on the web… Blog, Twitter, Youtube and
Whassap. It is amazing how you collaborate and with the help of your parents.
BRAVO!!!
First Activity:
The solution for balance the different scales as in
the example. As we have seen there can be many solutions, for instance adding
as many pawns as we need to make equal the other part of the scale.
Here you are my ideas but if you have a look at the
bottom of this pages I rather recommend your own solutions, they are much funnier.
3+1+1=5
5+5+3+3= (16)x1
5+3+3+1=9+3
Second exercise:
Well in this exercise there are more than just a right
answer, but the most important for me and you is to think about it no matters
if the answer is completely right or the same as mine.
WATCH OUT!!!
THERE ARE MANY FAKE SOLUTIONS:
Most of them are STALEMATE, so this is the aim to
avoid it:
When a Stalemate is?
It happens when the opponent King is not in “Check”
threat, but it cannot be moved to any other square.
Here you are an example:
As you can see in the graphic bellow none of the white pieces is really theatening the black King:
This is a STALEMATE, what means it is a draw, because
the Black King has no escape (as I suggested in the exercise)but on the other
hand none of the pieces is threatening the King.
In my solution (I repeat as you will see there are more) there is a real "Check mate" cause the Knight on d4 is threatening the Black King and all the scapes are covered with the white pieces:
